Expedition Overview

A Climber's Crown Jewel: Ama Dablam Nicknamed "Mountaineer's Mountain," Ama Dablam cuts a striking figure at 6,812 meters in the Khumbu region of the Himalayas. This technical peak lives up to its name, with a steep pyramid shape, vertical ice walls, and sharp exposed ridges. The true crown jewel of Ama Dablam is the hanging glacier on its southwest face. This icy formation, resembling a pendant, inspired the mountain's name, which translates to "Mother's Necklace" in Sherpa language. Conquering Ama Dablam is a technical challenge that rewards climbers with breathtaking panoramas. From the summit, you'll have a front-row seat to some of the world's most iconic peaks, including Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Lhotse.

Itinerary

After you disembark at Tribhuvan International Airport, you'll head through immigration to get your visa squared away. Once you've collected your luggage, simply follow signs for "Arrivals" or "Exit" to leave the arrival hall. Don't worry about finding your way - your trip leader will be waiting just outside with a sign, ready to whisk you away to your Kathmandu hotel. Relax, enjoy the ride, and get ready for an amazing adventure in Nepal!
Kathmandu awaits! Here, you'll finalize your preparations for the climb. You'll meet your fellow adventurers, complete any remaining official paperwork, and ensure your gear is dialed in for the challenge ahead. This is also your chance to explore the vibrant city of Kathmandu with an optional sightseeing tour (let your trip leader know if you're interested!). Before you embark on your journey, you'll have a trip orientation where your leader will provide a detailed briefing about the climb, ensuring you're informed and excited for the adventure to come.
Fueling up with an early breakfast, we board a thrilling mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a tiny airstrip nestled in the Himalayas. After a 35-minute flight, our adventure begins! We descend towards the Dudh Kosi River, joining the main trail that winds towards Namche Bazaar. The walk is gentle, taking us through the charming village of Ghat before reaching our first stop for the night - Phakding, nestled at 2713 meters.
Leaving Phakding, our trek follows the Dudh Kosi River through a scenic pine forest. We'll navigate suspension bridges at several points, passing charming settlements like Zapute, Toktok, Benkar, and Chumoa. Reaching Monjo, the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park, we'll complete park formalities and officially enter this protected area.

Our path then descends to the river again, where another suspension bridge awaits. Crossing it, we'll make our way towards the imposing Hillary Bridge at the foot of a hill. After conquering this bridge, a climb up the hill towards Namche Bazaar is rewarded with breathtaking views. Keep your eyes peeled for the majestic Thamserku Mountain, and with clear skies, you might even catch your first glimpse of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Kusum Khangru!
Nestled amidst the Himalayas, Namche Bazaar awaits, the gateway to the high peaks. This vibrant town is both the Sherpa cultural capital and the main trading hub. Here, acclimatization is crucial. Relax and explore to adjust to the higher altitude. For a cultural immersion, join an optional hike to the ancient village of Thame or visit nearby villages like Khumjung, Khunde, or Khongde. Keep your camera handy – a climb above Namche Bazaar offers panoramic views of Thamserku and, on a clear day, the majestic Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Kusum Khangru.

Back in town, delve into the local spirit by exploring the bustling marketplace, a haven for souvenirs and handicrafts. Learn about the region's history at the National Park Headquarters, museums, and monasteries. Surprisingly, Namche Bazaar boasts modern amenities - cafes, shops, bakeries, and restaurants. Stay connected with loved ones using the post office, hospital, and even internet access. With its cultural richness, breathtaking scenery, and modern comforts, Namche Bazaar provides a perfect base camp for your Himalayan adventure.
Departing Namche Bazaar, the Dudh Koshi River with its glacial water becomes our constant companion. The trail unfolds with stunning views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamserku, and Ama Dablam - a feast for the eyes! Our path winds through a vibrant forest ablaze with blooming rhododendrons, eventually reaching Sanasa. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife - musk deer and colorful birds might grace us with their presence. Here, the trail splits: one path leads towards Gokyo Valley, while ours takes a different turn. With a determined climb, we ascend to Tengboche Monastery, the largest Gompa in the Khumbu region. The reward? Breathtaking close-up views of the surrounding mountains. After soaking in the spiritual and scenic wonders of Tengboche, a gentle walk through birch and rhododendron forests leads us to our next stop, Deboche.
Fueled by breakfast, we begin our day with a descent to the Imja River. Lush forests line the path as we climb steadily towards Pangboche (3860m). This charming village is adorned with traditional Chortens (stupas) and Mani walls, offering a glimpse into the local culture. Pangboche Monastery, a spiritual landmark, is also worth a visit. The trail then grants access to the Imja Valley. After a steeper climb to Pheriche, we'll continue alongside the Lobuche River. The day concludes with a challenging ascent to Dingboche, our final stop for the day. Dingboche paints a different picture - agriculture reigns supreme here. Stonewalled fields showcase the locals' hard work, with buckwheat, potatoes, and barley being their main crops.
To further acclimatize to the increasing altitude, today's agenda features a hike up Nagarstang Peak, reaching around 5,000 meters. This climb will significantly benefit our bodies' adjustment to the thin air. After conquering the peak, we'll return to Dingboche for a well-deserved rest. The remainder of the day is yours to explore the Dingboche Valley at your own pace, soaking in the unique high-altitude environment.
Leaving Dingboche behind, we retrace our steps to Pheriche. Today's trek is moderate as we head towards Dugla. The path takes us through the rugged moraine of the Khumbu Glacier, a landscape sculpted by moving ice. Our destination, Chupki Lhara, is marked by a sea of colorful prayer flags. This poignant spot serves as a memorial for climbers who have perished in the Himalayas, a reminder of the mountain's beauty and its dangers. Continuing along the Khumbu Glacier moraine, we arrive at Lobuche. The journey boasts stunning close-up views of Pumori, Khumbutse, and other majestic peaks that pierce the clear sky.
A real early start is required to reach the Everest Base Camp. It takes several hours as the trail weaves its way through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. After a brief lunch and rest, we take the trail to Everest Base Camp through the once-vast Gorak Shep Lake. Only upon reaching the Everest Base Camp do we really appreciate the Everest climbers who brave the risky route through the Khumbu icefall. Mountaineer's tents stand out in bright colours against the monotony of grey surroundings (especially in the spring). Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori are the mountains we can view from the base camp. We return to Gorakshep for a restful night.
Brace yourselves for the thin air at Gorakshep! An early start is essential today, as we embark on a pre-dawn mission to witness the breathtaking sunrise over Everest from Kalapattar. The route unfolds with majestic views of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse, steadily building anticipation for the grand finale. Upon reaching Kalapattar, the reward is unparalleled - unobstructed views of the mighty Everest, a sight forever etched in your memory. After capturing this unforgettable moment in photographs, we'll make our descent back to Lobuche, hearts filled with the awe-inspiring beauty of the Himalayas.
Leaving Lobuche village, a rough moraine path unfolds beneath our feet as we embark on the 3-hour trek to Lobuche High Camp, perched at 5,250 meters (17,224 ft). The initial hour is a gradual climb, easing us into the challenge ahead. However, the following hour tests our endurance with a steeper, rockier section. After conquering this rocky terrain, we'll finally reach Lobuche High Camp. Here, a well-deserved lunch and rest await, followed by some climbing training to prepare for the next day's summit push. An early dinner fuels us for the pre-dawn start we'll make tomorrow, aiming to reach the summit of Everest.
Today is the culmination of your journey - summit day! An incredibly early start is crucial, with a pre-dawn departure around 2 am (the exact timing will be determined based on your group's pace). The climb from High Camp to the summit is estimated to take 7-8 hours, while the descent back to High Camp will be roughly 4 hours. Remember, this is a strenuous high-altitude climb, so prioritizing safety is paramount. Listen to your guides, take breaks when needed, and turn back if you don't feel well.

Reaching the summit is a physically demanding feat, but the reward is unparalleled. Prepare to be awestruck by panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Pumori, and a tapestry of other Himalayan giants. Savor this once-in-a-lifetime moment at the top of the world, but be sure to manage your time effectively. After capturing memories and celebrating your achievement, it's time to begin the safe descent back to Lobuche High Camp for lunch. From there, we'll continue down to Thugla for well-deserved rest. Congratulations on reaching the summit of Everest - a truly remarkable accomplishment!
Our descent from Lobuche takes us back through the vast Khumbu Valley. As we retrace our steps, keep an eye out for the charming Sherpa settlements of Orsho and Shomare, tiny villages nestled amidst the grandeur of the Himalayas. Our journey culminates in Pangboche, known for housing the oldest monastery in the entire Khumbu region. This picturesque village offers a chance to relax and take in the breathtaking panorama - Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, the Kangtega and Kongde ridges, and the Imja Tse River - a perfect ending to an unforgettable adventure.
Leaving Pangboche, we will head towards Amadablam Base Camp by following the scenic trail that stretches down to the river and take a sharp climb to Kharka. The trail offers close-up views of Amadablam, Lhotse, Lobuche, Pumori, Cholatse, Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Amphu Gyabjen and others. As we move ahead, the view of Amadablam Mountain becomes more vivid. Once we reach the base camp of Amadablam, we can get views of many stunning peaks and hanging glaciers. We will meet our other crew at Base Camp.
After reaching Ama Dablam Base Camp, take some well-deserved time to rest and organize your gear. Here, you'll be part of a traditional Sherpa puja ceremony, a spiritual offering seeking blessings for a safe and successful ascent of Ama Dablam. This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and connect with the mountain on a deeper level.

Before embarking on the summit push, our experienced guides will lead a comprehensive climbing clinic around Base Camp. This session will be crucial, honing your climbing skills and ensuring you're fully prepared for the technical challenges ahead. With a clear mind, a strong body, and the blessings received, you'll be ready to tackle the ascent of Ama Dablam.
Following our acclimatization rotations, a weather window will be our key to targeting the summit push for Ama Dablam. Due to the unpredictable nature of mountain weather and other unforeseen circumstances, a fixed itinerary for these crucial days is not possible. Your experienced guides will continuously monitor conditions and make informed decisions to optimize your safety and chance of success.

Rest assured, your guides will provide clear guidance and updates throughout this dynamic phase. Be prepared to adapt and trust their expertise as they navigate you towards achieving your summit goal.
Our itinerary includes built-in contingency days, a crucial buffer that ensures a smooth and adaptable expedition. These days are not wasted time, but rather a strategic element to address unforeseen circumstances.
Having conquered Ama Dablam (or reaching the highest point possible given the conditions), we retrace our steps with a sense of accomplishment. The descent from Base Camp leads us back to Pangboche, offering another chance to marvel at the breathtaking panorama. As we descend, soak in the majestic views of Everest, Ama Dablam (from a different perspective this time!), Thamserku, the Kangtega and Kongde ridges, and the Imja Tse River. Pangboche village awaits, a perfect place to celebrate your success and reminisce about the incredible journey you've undertaken.
Our return journey follows the Imja Khola (river) valley, a scenic path that winds through a charming forest of birch and spruce. This tranquil trail leads us back to Tengboche Monastery, where we can enjoy a brief stop to revisit its spiritual significance.

Leaving Tengboche behind, the trail transforms into a vibrant corridor adorned with blooming rhododendrons. These colorful displays will surely capture your attention as we make our way towards the bridge over the Dudh Koshi River.

Crossing the bridge marks the transition into the Dudh Koshi gorge. Here, towering cliffs and a dense pine forest create a dramatic contrast. Following the gorge, we'll eventually reach the village of Sansa, a welcome sight after the grandeur of the gorge. From Sansa, a final leg through pine forest brings us back to the familiar hustle and bustle of Namche Bazaar.
Our trek concludes with a final day following the Dudh Kosi River downstream towards Lukla. This is a gentle walk compared to the steeper descents we've conquered. Enjoy the gradual incline and take a moment to reflect on the awe-inspiring landscapes you've traversed. A delicious lunch awaits us along the way, fueling us for the final climb to the Lukla airstrip.

Upon reaching Lukla, a sense of accomplishment washes over you. This is the last day amidst these majestic mountains, a perfect time to relax and savor the emotional journey you've undertaken. Reflect on the challenges overcome, the breathtaking scenery witnessed, and the camaraderie built with your fellow adventurers.

In the evening, celebrate your successful summit (or reaching your highest point) with a well-deserved farewell. Raise a toast to your incredible Sherpa guides and porters, who have become not just reliable support, but cherished friends. This celebratory dinner marks the end of an unforgettable Himalayan adventure, one that will leave a lasting impression.
Early rise, scenic flight, Kathmandu bound! Enjoy breakfast at Lukla before your return flight to Kathmandu. Upon landing, our representatives will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace.
Free day at Kathmandu. This also serves as a contingency day if there's any delay with the Lukla flights.
Thank you for joining us on this incredible expedition. We hope the breathtaking scenery and challenges conquered have created lasting memories. It was a pleasure getting to know you. Bon voyage for a safe and happy journey home!
