Overview

Expedition Overview

Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak, is a dream for every climber. Reaching its summit is the ultimate mountaineering adventure, a chance to be part of history. However, the journey is fraught with challenges. With decades of experience and a proven track record, Himali Exped is here to turn your Everest dream into reality.
Our meticulously crafted itinerary prioritizes safety and provides ample time for acclimatization. We offer the highest level of service, including more oxygen support and comfortable base camp and Camp 2 logistics. Following the standard trekking route to Everest Base Camp, we'll journey through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep. Upon arrival, we'll prepare for the main ascent with pre-training sessions on the Khumbu Glacier, honing climbing and rescue techniques. Unlike typical expeditions, our acclimatization includes a climb of Lobuche East, a thrilling 6,000m peak that serves as excellent preparation. This allows you to test your gear and skills, minimizing time spent in the dangerous Khumbu Icefall. After the climb, we return to base camp for a traditional Sherpa Puja ceremony, seeking blessings for a successful summit. Our second acclimatization phase involves rotations through the Khumbu Icefall to establish four camps: Camp 1 (5,900m), Camp 2 (6,400m), Camp 3 (7,300m), and Camp 4 (7,900m). We'll guide you based on your individual needs, typically including overnights at Camp 2 and Camp 3. When ready, we'll wait for a weather window and make our summit push, using oxygen from Camp 3 onwards. We provide ample oxygen (8 bottles per climber) for your safety and comfort. From Camp 4, we'll follow the southeast ridge to the South Summit, then tackle the Hillary Step before reaching the top of the world.

Itinerary

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, please complete your visa process and collect your luggage. As you exit the arrival hall, keep an eye out for a Himali Exped representative holding a sign with our name. They will warmly greet you and escort you to your comfortable hotel in Kathmandu.
Once settled, enjoy refreshing welcome drinks and take some time to freshen up. Later in the evening, your trip leader will provide a comprehensive briefing about your upcoming adventure in the hotel lobby.
These two days in Kathmandu are set aside for final preparations before your climb. You'll have the opportunity to meet your fellow climbers, complete any remaining paperwork, and finalize your gear. If you're interested, we can arrange optional sightseeing tours of Kathmandu to explore the city's rich history and culture.

To ensure you're fully prepared, we'll hold a trip orientation where your trip leader will provide a detailed briefing on the upcoming climb.
After an early breakfast, we board a STOL aircraft for a scenic 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. This unique airstrip, built by Sir Edmund Hillary and the Sherpas, marks the start of our adventure. Descending towards the Dudh Kosi River, we join the main trail to Namche Bazaar. The path is gentle, leading us through the charming village of Ghat before arriving at our overnight stop in Phakding.
Today, our trek continues alongside the rushing Dudh Koshi River, winding through fragrant pine forests and past picturesque villages like Zapute, Toktok, Benkar, and Chumoa. We'll navigate thrilling suspension bridges before reaching Monjo, the gateway to the majestic Sagarmatha National Park.

After completing the park entry formalities, we descend through lush forests, arriving at the river's edge. Crossing another suspension bridge, we face a steep climb towards the towering Hillary Bridge. From there, the path leads us upwards to Namche Bazaar, where the air thins and the views expand. On a clear day, be prepared for your first glimpse of the awe-inspiring giants: Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Kusum Khangru.
Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the high Himalayas and capital of Sherpa land, is a bustling trading center where rest is crucial for acclimatization. Short hikes to the ancient Sherpa village of Thame or nearby Khumjung, Khunde, and Khongde offer glimpses into the rich Sherpa culture.
Explore the marketplace, visit the National Park Head office, the museum, or monasteries. The area is brimming with cafes, shops, bakeries, and restaurants, while essential services like a post office, hospital, government health post, and even internet access are available for your convenience.
Following the milky glacial waters of the Dudh Koshi River, we'll be treated to views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamserku, and Ama Dablam. Our path winds through a vibrant rhododendron forest, home to musk deer and colorful pheasants, towards Sanasa. Here, at the junction to Gokyo Valley, we'll take the sharp ascent towards Tengboche, the largest monastery in the Khumbu region. The challenging climb rewards us with close-up views of surrounding peaks. After visiting the monastery, we'll continue through birch and rhododendron forests to our overnight stay in Deboche.
Descending to the Imja River, our trail winds uphill through lush forest to Pangboche (3860m), where we'll visit the monastery adorned with chortens and mani walls. Continuing into the Imja Valley, we tackle a steep climb to Pheriche, then press on to Lobuche River. A final challenging ascent leads us to Dingboche, an agricultural haven where stone-walled fields of buckwheat, potatoes, and barley reveal the local way of life. Here, we'll rest for the night.
Today is a day for both rest and exploration. We'll take a leisurely stroll around Dingboche, engaging in conversations with the locals to gain insight into their unique way of life. It's a chance to appreciate the cultural richness of this region, soak in the beautiful surroundings, and catch up on some reading or relaxation.
However, we won't be idle. Our acclimatization continues with an invigorating hike to Nagartsang peak (5,067m). Though the climb is challenging, the reward is well worth it. At the summit, you'll be greeted by breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas – a truly unforgettable sight.
Our day begins with a moderate walk to Dugla, traversing the rugged Khumbu glacier moraine. We'll arrive at Chupki Lhara, a poignant site adorned with colorful prayer flags in memory of those lost on Everest. The trail continues through the glacial landscape, offering breathtaking close-up views of Pumori, Khumbutse, and the surrounding peaks. Finally, we reach our resting place for the night in Lobuche.
Our journey begins with a trek past a breathtaking crevasse, nestled between the glacier's moraine and a towering mountain. A steady climb leads us onto the Changri Nup Glacier, where the undulating terrain offers a thrilling, winding path. The trail then descends slightly into a barren, sandy moraine, dotted with lodges amidst the dramatic backdrop of jagged peaks. Welcome to Gorakshep, our home for the night.
The day begins with an exhilarating climb alongside the Khumbu Glacier, our sights set on Everest Base Camp. As we ascend, the anticipation builds with each step. Finally, we stand triumphant at the foot of the world's tallest peak, surrounded by a breathtaking panorama of towering mountains, the mesmerizing Khumbu Icefall, and the vast expanse of the glacier. We'll spend the night immersed in this awe-inspiring landscape, dwarfed by the majestic peaks that have captured the dreams of adventurers for centuries.
Settle into your base camp, your home for the next 4 weeks, as we prepare for the challenges ahead. A traditional Sherpa puja ceremony will be conducted, seeking blessings for a safe expedition, on a date deemed auspicious by the Tibetan calendar. In addition, we'll conduct essential training sessions at base camp and on the icy seracs of the Khumbu Glacier, ensuring that everyone's equipment is in top condition and refreshing crucial climbing and rescue techniques.
To prepare for the challenges of Everest, we begin our acclimatization with a climb to Lobuche East. This serves as an ideal training ground, helping us adjust to the higher altitudes and refine our climbing skills.

Lobuche East Climb Plan:

Day 1: Trek to Lobuche.
Day 2: Ascend to Lobuche High Camp.
Day 3: Summit Lobuche East and descend to either Lobuche or High Camp.

This focused ascent not only aids in acclimatization but also offers a rewarding experience in its own right. By conquering Lobuche East, you'll gain valuable experience and confidence before tackling Everest itself.
A short couple-hour walk through Gorak Shep and across rocky dunes and moraine will bring us to Everest Base Camp, where we'll reunite with the rest of our team.
Over the next few days, we'll settle into base camp life. This includes further training, rest, and preparation for our second acclimatization rotation, where we'll push ourselves to an impressive 7,000 meters.
After our first acclimatization rotation on Lobuche Peak completed, we will now leave base camp for higher camps on Everest for our second acclimatization rotation for about a week.

Tentative Schedule for second rotation:
– Climb to Camp 1 (5,900m/19,500ft)
– Climb to Camp 2 (6,400m/21,000ft)
– Rest at Camp 2 (6,400m/21,000ft)
– Touch Camp 3 (7,300m/23,700ft) and sleep at Camp 2 (6,400m/21,000ft)
– Descent to base camp (5,364m/17,559ft)

For the acclimatization, please note that the acclimatization program may differ during the expedition period as each climber adapts differently with an altitude. Your expedition leader will suggest you the best as per your conditions. In general, our acclimatization program includes overnight at Camp 2 and tag the Lhotse Face/Camp 3. When this is done, we rest and recover at the base camp while waiting for the weather window for the summit attempt.
Once our second acclimatization rotation is complete, we'll descend back to base camp for rest and preparation for the final push to the summit. The duration of our rest period here will depend on the weather window for the summit attempt, which could be a few days or even a week.

During this time, you have the option to trek or fly down to lower-altitude villages like Namche Bazaar for further rest and recovery.
The Summit Push: Your Moment of Triumph

When the weather window aligns, we embark on the ultimate challenge: the summit push. Each climber will be paired with a dedicated Sherpa guide for personalized support throughout this exhilarating ascent.

Summit Push Plan (Tentative):

Ascend to Camp 2 (6,400m/21,000ft).
Rest and acclimatize at Camp 2.
Climb to Camp 3 (7,300m/23,700ft), utilizing oxygen.
Continue to Camp 4, South Col (7,900m/25,912ft), with oxygen support.
The Final Push: The same night, begin the summit push to the top of Everest (8,848.86m/29,029ft), using oxygen. Descend to Camp 4 or Camp 2, depending on conditions.
Return to Camp 2 for rest.
Descend to Base Camp (5,364m/17,559ft).
Unparalleled Oxygen Support:

For a safer and more comfortable climb, we provide each climber with 8 bottles of oxygen, starting at Camp 3. This exceeds the standard offered by most operators, ensuring maximum flow and optimizing your chances of success.

The Path to the Summit:

From Camp 4, we'll follow the historic southeast ridge, ascending to the South Summit. From there, we'll navigate the challenging Hillary Step before finally reaching the summit of Mount Everest.
